BREAKING THE CYCLE OF DREAM FAILURE

In the field of sports it is very important that a team does not experience too many losses in a row. After the third defeat, the morale of the team is affected and statistics prove that a pattern of defeat follows for the rest of the season. By the same principle it has been discovered that if a team wins 3 games in a row, they establish a pattern of victory.

Many people do not experience the good life because they have had one dream failure after another. They now live in a pattern of defeat and disappointment. It is important to change the pattern. If you begin with a desire that you are confident will be fulfilled, your success will most likely be assured.

When the first dream is fulfilled, then you can go to the next one. That fulfilled dream will give you faith for the next one and then you are on your way. You can change the course of your life through dreaming and seeing those desires fulfilled. When the smaller dreams are fulfilled then bigger ones will come easily. In fact, they won’t even seem big any more.

Jesus said, “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32). This is outrageous! Your Heavenly Father delights in giving you the Kingdom. What does that look like? Jesus taught you to pray in this way, “Your Kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). He would not have taught you to pray that way if He didn’t want you to have the download of heaven’s blessings in your life now.

Take some time to dream for a few moments. What would your life look like if you lived in the atmosphere of God’s Kingdom? Can you imagine the abundance you would live in? The peace? The rest? When the Lord was giving Moses instructions about how He would set the nation of Israel free from the slavery of Egypt, He told him that when the people came out of bondage they were to come up and worship Him.  This was not about not God wanting people to “thank” Him for what He did, it was about God giving all of us a key that helps us live in freedom.  Worship is a powerful tool that brings us into the presence of our Living God and helps us remember not only what He has done, but who He is.  Worship is not only a celebration of the testimonies and victories God has given us, it is a declaration of the certainty that He HAS broken every yoke and oppression of the enemy and that we are free.  Worship proclaims who our God is and what He has done and pulls the reality of His fulfilled promises from the eternal realm where “it is finished!” into the temporal realm so that it is done.

Paul and Silas had a powerful revelation of this.  When they were chained in that dungeon prison they did not murmur and complain, they did not cry out to God to please do something.  No.  They WORSHIPPED the Lord! They praised Him and celebrated Him and declared who He was and what He HAD done.  And in that, they were set free.  There temporal circumstances came into alignment with the eternal truth.  PRAISE GOD!!

Ephesians 1:3 says we HAVE BEEN GIVEN every spiritual blessing in heavenly places.  Not that we will one day. But that we have them.  2 Peter 1:3 similarly states that everything pertaining to life and godliness HAS BEEN GIVEN unto us in Christ Jesus.  Not that one day we might have them.  But that they are right now eternally ours because we are in Christ Jesus.

Do you see how powerful worship is?  It is not simply singing some songs.  It is spiritual warfare. It is impactful intimacy.  It is a simple but profound way to enforce the eternal truth of who God is and what He has done in every one of our temporal circumstances.

THE NATURE OF DECEPTION

When you are deceived you do not know it; that is the nature of it. Deception is different from rebellion. If you were to rebel, you would know what is right yet deliberately choose to do what is wrong. When deceived, you actually believe you are right. Deception creates blind spots in your perception so that you cannot actually see the truth. What you believe feels like the truth when you are deceived. Narcissism is rooted in deception. In the myth, when Narcissus looked into the reflection he actually believed with full conviction that it was a true being he could love. It was not true, so he died believing the lie. This is the nature of deception.

The best safeguard against deception is a good accountability team around you. People who love you enough to speak the truth to you are great gifts. Narcissus had those around him who tried to comfort him but not those who spoke the truth. I love accountability. I listen and submit to the input from my accountability relationships. This is a safeguard against deception. Unfortunately, I know some who have put accountability teams around them but when confrontation came, they dissolved the members who disagreed with them. They then surrounded  themselves with “yes men.”

The outcome was disastrous as they continued to grow in deception rather than truth. They put the original team around them for appearance sake only and not for functionality. In such cases, others in their sphere of influence are affected and infected by the deception also. This type of action in response to confrontation is actually a symptom of a spirit of narcissism at work, and it potentially fuels the spirit’s influence in addition to increasing its hold on those who succumb to its deception.
